Soup Master!

I just made the best soup! First, I diced up a few green onions.

Then a handful of brussel spouts.

I added two beaten eggs into my boiling broth of water and egg drop soup mix. Oh...cage free eggs too.

Some angel hair shaped tofu noodles.

Doesn't it just look yummy?! It tastes wonderful, but it could use some soy sauce. If you make it yourself, I'd taste it first before adding any.

It just so happens to all be vegetarian...

Lunch: Spinach salad with sliced strawberries, honey roasted almond slices and balsamic vinaigrette.

Plain tomato sauce on fresh pizza dough. Pile it up with fresh basil.

Then completely cover with shredded mozzarella. I over did it on the cheese. Plus, I left this out on the stove over night so I had to throw over half of this away. Tragic. Some other meals this week included Greek salads and pan-seared tofu with fried purple cabbage. Forgot to get pictures of those. Not sure where this vegetarian kick came from or how long it will last but my freezer is stocked with Morning Star and my fridge is loaded with veggies.

Domaine Dupeuble Père et Fils 2008 Beaujolais Nouveau

We were walking around the West Village and spotted this cute little wine shop. The woman recommended this wine above. It's a perfect summer red! Very light and juicy! I LOVED it!
The color is very nice - clear, dark purple, with a clear violet edge. The aroma is very forward ripe-strawberry. Juicy and fresh strawberries on the palate, nicely framed by mouth-watering acidity. US Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, Calif. (Nov 25, 2008) This is so getting a gold star in my book! One of my new faves!

The Spotted Pig

Curtis and I decided to go out to a nice dinner last night. We made our way over to the West Village and dined in the lovely Spotted Pig. They serve seasonal British & Italian using local ingredients when possible.
There are vegetarian dishes, but we had the chicken liver toast as an appetizer. And then I had the Pan Roasted Guinea Fowl with Morels and Curtis had the Chargrilled Burger with Roquefort Cheese & Shoestrings. The fowl was incredible. Best bird I've ever had! For dessert, we had the Crème Caramel.
The Spotted Pig is owned by April Bloomfield, Ken Friedman, and Mario Battali; however, the chef is April Bloomfield. There is no dress code and tables are first come, first serve. We got there and we were told we would have a 45 minute wait, but at that moment two seats opened up at the bar so we ate there. How lucky!

Grapes from some of the finest vines in the Paso Ribles appellation...

Ah, Rosenblum. My fave. On the label it says, "This Zinfandel has a fragrant bouquet of ripe blackberries and currants with hints of vanilla and black pepper. Rich flavors of blackberry and creamy cherry follow."
Yeah, pretty much nails it. Happy Cinco De Drinko!
