Dinner at Back Forty is a winner for a Monday!

Why is dinner so awesome at Back Forty on Monday you ask? Because all the drinks are half price all night long! Yup, that's right! Also, the food is bangin'. Fresh and delicious!

The only catch is you have to eat at the bar. We didn't mind one bit. Curtis had the grassfed burger with rosemary and sea salt fries. I had the cornmeal crusted catfish. It was awesome. We even had homemade orange creamsickle donuts for dessert. Please, friends of the East Village...lets all go together again some time real soon...

SouthWest NY

This was my salad from SouthWest NY in Battery Park, NY. Curtis and I ate lunch here one afternoon after walking five miles. The best part was the roasted corn and the portion size. I ate it for lunch and dinner!

These chips are probably some of the best in NYC. The salsa isn't chunky --which I kind of secretly love. Mmm...soupy salsa.

Our reward for walking so much...Sauvignon Blanc and a Strawberry Margarita.

My cutie pie.

Fish tacos, great success!

I decided to try my hand at making fish tacos the other night and I have to admit, I did awesome.
They came out so delish, I will def. make them again!
First, I added a bit of cumin to a pot of black beans.

Then I pan seared two tuna steaks.

Diced it up...it practically fell apart, it was so easy.

Finished product: I added sour cream, salsa and lettuce. No cheese. It was a winner in my book!

La Palapa

Curtis and I were watching Chopped on TV the other night and one of the contestants was a chef from this restaurant. Go figure, it's right around the corner from us. So, we decided to check it out. I stole this strip image off their website because I ate that thing in the middle: Chicken Enchiladas with green Tomatillo sauce.

Here is a pic of the outside of the restaurant. This place specializes in "Mexico City style" tacos and quesadillas, which is what Curtis had. You can find them on St. Marks Place, between First and Second Avenue in the East Village. The place is called La Palapa. A palapa btw, is palm-thatched shelter on a Mexican beach.
Overall, I'd say it was a 7. Had it been less pricey, I would have rated it an 8. But nothing has been able to beat my #1... Mexican Radio. But honestly, isn't all Mexican food like little bites of heaven? DELISH!

Vino time!

We've had some decent wines this week. The first: a Pinot Noir for Oregon. We begin with it's brilliant red color. Buttery nose with spice, earth, and cinnamon highlights. Mouth is bright red, black cherry with light raspberry, strawberry, cinnamon, and earth, with long cherry berry finish. What's good about this? It will continue to develop and improve for 4–7 years. But, we drank it. No better time than the PRESENT!

The second. A wonderful crisp Chardonnay from France. This is the Eric Chevalier Vigneron en Pays de Retz Chardonnay 2008. The color of this wine is a pale golden hue...reminds me of a dry Sauvignon Blanc; however, the bouquet is crisp citrus. The flavor is a mix between a buttery Chardonnay and a crisp Pinot Grigio. It leans more towards a Pinot Grigio in taste than a Chardonnay. Perfect summer wine!

Warm Spaghetti Squash Salad

Dinner tonight was a doctored recipe from Food and Wine Magazine. Warm Spaghetti Squash salad begins with a whole spaghetti squash baked in the oven at 350 for 45 minutes. Face down!
Once baked, fork out all the squash. It looks like spaghetti. It tastes great.

Let it cool for about 5 to 10 minutes before you scoop the goods out.

Add crumbled feta, garlic, onion powder, olive oil, salt, and fresh cracked pepper.

Sprinkle with unsalted toasted pecan crumbles. If you so desire, add a few olives on the side. VIOLA! Dinner is done, son.

The diner from Seinfeld...

After seeing "Stella Man" we walked around Columbia for a spell. (I really really LOVE that neighborhood btw...It's awesome! Heather, if you moved here - you would love it near Columbia.) Anyways, we had about 12 people with us and half of them were hungry so we went to Tom's Restaurant...also known as the restaurant face used in Seinfeld. The food --ehh, sub par. But now I can at least say I've been here. Tom's Restaurant, check.

Thor

So Zoe Zoe and I went to Thor for brunch yesterday. The decor in this hotel makes up for the lack of service for sure. It's a very modern design yet open and elegant. It wasn't crowded at all when I got there. This is the the main entrance. I love how cave like it feels walking into this place.

Here is Zoe reading her cell phone messages and filling me in on all her adventures at SXSW. We both had Eggs Benedict and while it was cooked properly, I found myself missing something.

I kept thinking, what if there was some kind of freak accident and this fell on our heads? ...I'm so weird.
